I read this book a couple of times since I bought it years ago. It has some real good information, & it was a good read if your into this sort of thing. The examples in the back are useful to see potential problems you may encounter & how the author went about fixing the issues. I wish there was a updated edition with more modern engine management systems in it, as this book was published years ago, so it's not current with what ECU's are currently being used by most people. Still would be useful, as many of the components & systems in cars are still mostly the same, even though the models are different.
This book has got a false title. There's very little in here about tuning and modifying EMSs. It's chapter after chapter of what amounts to essentially just an advertising brochure for all the various manufacturers of ECUs. What a waste of money!If you want a REAL EFI engine tuning book - get "Engine Management - Advanced Tuning" by Greg Banish. That book blows the doors off this one. That book has so much on tuning, it'll quench your appetite and STILL leave some information on the table that you've yet to comprehend and can return to years later as your skills progress.
this book is detailed enough in its explanations that a programmer could write his own engine management system. It is good to the point that if you own one of the many project cars mentioned you should buy this book. The author obviously knows a LOT about engine management systems. If you ever worried about the specifics such as proper ignition timing or what the best AFR would be in situation x , this book is the answer. There is no reason to make this review lengthy, the book is very good. I am very picky about my books, I wont even buy one if it's amazon rating is under a 4, and I think this book is great.
This was a very thorough introduction to Electronic Fuel Injection basics, starting out with how you would want to design a system to handle those items that used to be handled by a distributor and carburetor. The author also talks about the advantages of EFI systems, typical engine parameters, and even gives formulas for deriving various component sizes, such as injector flow rate. If you are looking for in-depth information about how to tune a specific motor or automobile, this isn't the book for you. The specifics of engine tuning are given in more general terms so that they can be applied to your particular application as you gain knowledge to tackle your first EFI tuning project.
Seller shipped fast and cost of book was good. The books tells alot but be forwarned, its teck heavy. Lots of info but you'll probably need to read it twice. You can skip to each section and just read it if the others don't interest you. It's an eye opener! Cheaper to do a little home work then blow up your engine. It helps you to understand why you blew up the first one (as is my case!). Live and learn (from my case!).

For those looking for a user manual on how to tune a car... well this isnt it. But if you are looking for something that will give you the basis for understanding WHY you are doing certain things... THIS IS THE BOOK.Its largely based on explaining the history, progression, and improvements to engine management systems. Then breaks down in pretty good details what different factors or settings change in the engine, how to tune for them, and what the side effects could be.There is lots of theory, and lots of info here. For those just getting into the black art of engine management, or even just engine work in general, this book is a great base to build off of. With this book, and Max Boost from Corky Bell, you really should be on solid ground when diving into a forced induction setup, or dealing with Nitrous since theres lots of the book which talkes about Nitrous injection.One thing this book also does, is clearly caution a reader from just playing with engine management. It explains how touchy some of these settings are, and how easy it is to destroy an engine from mis management.
