I know advertising, bc I have a degree in it, and run a full time business. I was so excited to read this book. I also think Annie Hopper is an excellent writer. I was really into it, but after getting to page 135 and reading for the millionth time, "this person was cured after attending a live DNRS program or purchasing the instructional dvd" I just became really peeved. I've skimmed the rest of it and still nothing. I never write reviews, but really upset bc I really need help. I've had Lyme disease that went undiagnosed for years and two traumatic events that have left me with severe food allergies and a lot of other health issues. Shame on you Annie Hopper for having the ability to help and dangling a carrot instead. I barely have time to read. I did take the time out to do so and found out I need to take even more time and money out to get answers. You used to be sick and should understand better than anyone how little time and money a person with a chronic illness has. You are far too talented and have gone through too much to not understand that if you are advertising a self help book then it needs to have some information that will actually help people. You are such a good writer that had you written your entire program in this book on how I can actually rewire my brain, I would have tried to find your DNRS program, or at the very least given you 5 stars and bought the DVD. After this bait and switch book I've decided I wouldn't give you another cent. Life's not just about making money. Especially when you have the ability to really help people.
I purchased this in 2015. At the time, there were nothing but positive reviews and I was desperate for help so I ordered. I read every page, and while the anecdotes are compelling and the science intriguing (though vague at times), it is not the self-help book I was looking for. It is simply an advertisement for her services and products. No how-to's, techniques, or any details that would help someone in need of healing. I hate leaving negative feedback but selling this to anyone who needs to rewire their brain is just plain cruel.For anyone suffering from brain damage, I recommend Neurotherapy/biofeedback, or the Brain Highways or Brain Worx Inc program instead. As for this book, it's going in the "donate" box.
I rarely write reviews, positive or negative. This book is one long infomercial. If you enjoy those endless videos where they never tell you the how/what/why, then you’ll love this because she never tells you either. I have no idea whether her theory or protocol works, I hope it does, but you’ll have to buy her DVD’s (do people still have those?) or attend a workshop because that’s the only way you’ll ever find out. I have to admit, being a person dealing with advanced late stage Lyme, I was disappointed, felt mislead and sad for all the other people out there who suffer too who might be inclined to buy this book with great hope and expectation only to discover....it’s a scam.
This book doesn't describe what her method is. It provides a description of the science behind the method and lots of stories about how the method has helped people, but it doesn't say what you do. The method may be fantastic and effective, but you're not going to learn how to do it here. I had already read Norman Doidge's The Brain That Changes Itself, which gives a deeper description of the science, and I'm not interested in the testimonials, so for me, the book offered nothing.
This book gives a lot of information to help the reader understand neural retraining and to see whether Hopper's program, The Dynamic Neural Retraining System, might be worth trying. In my case, and the cases of a lot of people whose stories are told in this book, it was! While I'm not to 100% (yet), I'm much, much healthier and able to live a life that is closer to normal than I have been in over a decade. I've spent a lot of money on various doctors, cures, environmental improvements, etc., but none has given me as much recovery as the program she outlines here has. (BTW, I used the DVD version -- much more affordable than the workshops, and therefore within the reach of most sufferers.) I'm glad the book is available to allow people to find out more about this program, but if you're looking for complete directions or a complete program for neural retraining, you need the DVD set or workshop, not just this book.
