About the Author
As Assistant Professor of audio engineering and performing arts technology at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance since 2003, Jason Corey teaches courses in sound recording, technical ear training, and musical acoustics. He holds Ph.D. and M.Mus. degrees in sound recording from McGill University in Montreal and has diverse experience as a recording engineer. His research is concerned with multichannel audio recording techniques, technical ear training methods, and the development of audio processing algorithms for multichannel audio. He is a recipient of the Audio Engineering Society Educational Foundation Scholarship, as well as the Paul D. Fleck Fellowship at The Banff Centre in Banff, Canada, where he has worked as an Audio Research Associate. He has presented his research at conferences in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Serving as Chair of the AES Education Committee since fall 2004, he is actively involved in the organization of student and education events at AES conventions, as well as the AES student website. He is the founder of the University of Michigan AES Student Section, serving as its faculty advisor since 2003. In addition to being an AES member, he is also a member of the Acoustical Society of America and the International Computer Music Association.

I own dozens, if not hundreds of books on audio in one fashion or another. This includes many of the most well known ones like Douglas Self books, Forrest Mims, Art of Electronics, Art of Digital Audio, etc. etc.Well, this book isn't like any of the other ones I own that deal with audio. This breaks semi-complicated concepts down in a professional manner to help you not only understand the lingo, but also how to train your ears to become a better listener of music and movies. Also included is a website where you can quite literally train your ears as you follow along with the instruction of the author.I write audio hardware reviews and technical articles on my website HallmanLabs.com. This book is in the top 10 of books I have come back to the most for reference or research.Highly recommended and worth the cost of admission! This is probably one of the only books out there that can improve both your technical writing ability and listening skills!! I hope to see another from this author at some point.
The book is ideal for persons interested in trying to understand aural perception in audio and psycho-acoustics. Although the book is slightly too fundamental for me but it does cover quite in detail on basics in audio critical listening and music reproduction.The technical details and graphical diagrams are easy to understand by non-technical person. It is a good book for a person trying to understand the critical aspects of basic acoustics and audio engineering.
The audio concepts explained in this book are pretty solid. However they can be found on many other books. What I found fantastic about this product are the software modules it comes with so you can train your ears. I've seen nothing like that in the market so the software alone to me is worth the price of the book
This book and the related exercises are very well done. The layout and basic explanations are very well conceived. I particularly like the Max based exercises that are used throughout the book.
Great book! The software that comes with it is very useful, and can provide very basic to very difficult training. Overall, this book will certainly increase your listening skills
