My mother passed away 3 years ago this December from what’s known as Lewy Body Dementia. This disease is not fun, it is a cross between Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. Lewy Body slowly erases memories as Alzheimer’s does while the Parkinson’s removes movement abilities.Because of my moms disease I’ve known diet affects the mind for a while, so I was thrilled to find this cookbook. It explains how diet affects your mind, certain foods that can aide in brain protection and foods that can aide in brain loss. Best described here is an excerpt “The diet is a combination of the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) and Mediterranean diet which were designed to focus on a dietary pattern that supports your brain health and function.”It talks about the ten brain super foods you should be eating andthe top 5 major brain no-no’s.Those of you who have read my other reviews know I’m a follower of the Ketogenic Diet, which has also been shown to aide in brain health as it was developed for people with epilepsy. However, I like this diet better and will switch over because YOU CAN EAT BREAD AND DRINK WINE! In fact, you are encouraged to drink one glass of wine a night! What’s not to love with that?!This was a great book with an excellent premise and I will certainly be trying some of these recipes out!

The food is good! I don't know that my mind is any more "there" at this point, but I've had more energy and I'm more regular.The start of the book goes over kind of the basics of keeping your brain healthy with nutrition. Then it gives a fourteen-day plan for using the cookbook. Here's the awesome thing about the way that the book is written: Plan in front, recipes in the back. Have you ever looked through a diet plan book and the days are set up within the book? It's confusing. Plus it gives you the opportunity to pick and choose a bit more. Obviously, you can do that with any cookbook, but then you have to read through everything at one time as opposed to a list where you can say "not for me".This is also the first cookbook that has the word "Diet" on it where I feel like it's being used to describe the food that you eat and not a diet that you are on. I don't know if that makes sense, but you can check out the book and see for yourself. The recipes are easy and mostly fast. I love it when a cookbook doesn't assume that I spend all day in the kitchen.

My dad lives with us and I can see how this diet would help to keep him healthier in mind and body, though I like the diet for myself because who am I to argue with drinking a glass of wine a day?!?! We tried the cinnamon apple quinoa bake and the pumpkin walnut pancakes, and tonight I am making the festival chicken stir-fry. So far every recipe we have tried has tasted amazing and even my toddler has loved it. This is definitely a great addition to my cookbook collection and I’m looking forward to trying more of the recipes. I’ll be implementing many of these recipes in the coming weeks.

I bought a couple of cookbooks that had gimmicks because I wanted to start cooking. Regular cookbooks just seemed too boring so that’s why this one stuck out. A cookbook focusing entirely on the mind seems interesting and beneficial. Surprisingly, there was a lot of information in the introduction. It discussed Alzheimer’s (an ailment that I am horribly afraid of) in significant detail. There is extensive scientific data to back up the claims. It’s crazy. The “mind” term is actually an acronym and I don’t remember what it was but the central idea is that the Mediterranean diet is the best. I had always heard of the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and it has always been popular. Now, it seems like there are even more benefits to it. Which is great since I love Mediterranean food. When you get to the actual recipes there is a profuse amount to choose from and I look forward to making them.
